Thinking Hats/Reflection on Netbooks

Complaining from my cousins is all I hear from them. Why? Well because at their school they have to use the boring paper and pencils. But luckily for me I get to use a netbook which is much easier to handle.

Instead of nagging everyone and reading boring books. Just type in keywords in Google and you’ll find lots of different and interesting things about your subject. Not only that but you learn faster too. It’s portable and convenient too.

Not everything is good about netbooks. For instance, once you've broken you have to pay heaps of money to repair it.

The netbook makes learning much easier in so many ways. For example, when you want to erase your work, you don’t have to tire your arm out. With a click of a button it just goes away. Collecting information is faster and easier too.

Only if it had photo booth, iMovie, hyperstudio and garageband, these few little tweaks would make this the best learning tool ever!!!

Original Swag

I finally got to make my own style of clothing. On Friday I was a free time designer. I used pizap to create the background and found images of objects and stuck them on to make clothing like I did with my t'shirt, hat and shorts. I call my style, 'Original Swag'. I hope you like it... <3

Thanks Telecom!!!

Free bus's, free picnic, and allowed to light the Telecom Christmas tree! How better could it get. Actually it could because we got to watch Titanium. Well Thanks to Telecom, some students from our school were invited to help light the big Christmas tree at Victoria Park with their families.

What a wonderful night it was. There were so many things to do. Like make Christmas Decorations, get your face painted, call Santa and listen to different New Zealand artist. One of my favourite artist was the famous New Zealand band.... TITANIUM!!

After Titanium had finished their act Oscar from Sione's Wedding ended the night with calling Santa  and lighting the BIG CHRISTMAS TREE.

Thank-you Telecom for giving our school this amazing opportunity. You're the best!!!

Robin Kahukiwas Piece of art

Robin Kahukiwa is a New Zealand Artist who paints lots of different maori legends. This was an activity we had to do in extension. first we had to found out heaps about Robin. Then we had to copy one of her paintings on Hyperstudio. Compared to Robins painting my version looks nothing like it. Hope you enjoy it.

THE BEST CAMP EVER!!!

After a long hike up the biggest mountain I've ever seen, I was so glad to see water. But then again not. Why? Because it made me need to do some personal business.

The last few minutes of lunch time had come to an end. Luckily we were going back to the camp-site to have dinner. But the other downside was hiking all the way back up and down the mountain. As the track came to an end without getting changed or putting my water shoes on I ran straight to the wharf.

“Tasi, lua, tolu, fa, yeah buddy”, my sister,(my best friend Nita) and I chanted as we jumped. Up the stairs and off the wharf, went me and Nita like about more than twenty times. Our time had finished and it was time for dinner. Without a doubt I was straight to the shower.

thinking about the next day while having my dinner, I just couldn't wait to have dessert. What a tiring but fun day to start camp.

1 More sleep till Camp!

I'm so excited that we only have one more night till camp. The only bummer is we have to be at school at SEVEN O'CLOCK!!!

An hour and a half on the bus, and thirty minutes on the ferry means we'll have to wait 2 hours until were arrive. I can't wait that long. Wish there were a faster way to get there.

All the different activities like, Ab-seiling, Kayaking, Convidence course and MORE. One of the most nervracking activity will be the Burma Trail because your blindfolded and have to rely on your partner. Also you might step on something or hurt someone. But other than that I reckon it will be the best camp ever.

A big challenge for me will be surviving with no internet, phone, or radio. I mean I have to be able to talk to other people than school mates. But besides that I'll survive.

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST CAMP EVEEEEEEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!

Couplet Poetry

On a hot summer day

My family and I go away

Diving in the swimming pool

That water keeps me cool

With a cool fizzy drink in my hand

We listen to the music played by the band

A wonderful day a camp

It was time to eat

The grass may be damp

But a burger was such a nice treat

Operation Flax

Mrs harper moved in to the next door neighbour and wanted to move the flax bush. Freya and her mum didn't want her to move it.

After school, Freya made a present to try and persuade mrs harper to not move the bush. Terry (Mr Harper), loved watching the tuis eat from the flax bush.

Instead of taking the bush away the moved it to the back of Mr and Mrs Harpers backyard

One of the Best Birthdays Ever!!

Waking up to the sound of rain, I was hoping it would clear up. “Man!, every time I have my birthday in Hamilton, it always rains in the morning”, I complain to my little cousin. Concentrating on the game, he didn't realise. “Happy Birthday” my aunty Karol mutters out after just waking up. Then my uncle Manuel woke up after a long night of PS2. “Morning”, we say to each other.

Up and ready to go we make our way to the bus stop. Splitting up my uncle and cousin go to town while my aunty and I go and get some clothes for me.(At my aunties house). “Aahh that's better, now I feel awake”, I sigh.

Meeting Uncle Manuel and Rawiri in town at time-zone, straight away I ask for money to play the games. “Die, die, die!!!”, I scream to the skeletons in the boat. Sadly we didn't win anything but this was what I was waiting for. TIME TO GO ICE SKATING!!!

Of course my advance skills for ice skating had faded but that didn't mean I couldn't have fun. And it definitely didn't stop my aunty. Slipping our skates on we were beyond the rink. Sadly my aunty fell face first into the ground and got wet.

Of course my uncle would love to be on TV so when the central news came we has skating all over them.(Not literally). When the left so did we. Straight to the butter chicken went my aunty and I.

Scooping up all the sauce, we were soon on our way home. “Thanks for the awesome birthday, Aunty and uncle. And that was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. Thanks to my Aunty Karol and Uncle Manuel.

Curiosity Beyond

After a hot Summer day, my friends and I were passing by the Pt.England Dairy.  Strangely enough, a person wandering around the shops look unusually casual, perhaps too casual. Entering the shops, I had a suspicious feeling that, the strange person was following Lisia, Jonita and I. What was going on?

The suspense grew as we ate our lollies. Turning around, the strange man pretended to look as if he was apart of a family behind us. “ Girls on three, start to run okay”, I whispered to them. “But why” they replied, “Just do it!”.

“ Three ”, and we started running. With exhaustion, we ran through the traffic of teenagers finishing college. Not even noticing, one of us had gone away. As Jonita and I turn back, we saw that weird man with Lisia. “Sia”, we scream as we sprint to get her. A pink car pulls up looking like his getaway car. luckily Jonita and I got there in time and snatched Lisia off that psycho guy. Checking if Lisia was all right she had a knife cut on her arm.

Rushing Sia to the hospital, to checked up, we were determined to find out what that strange man wanted from us.

An Amazing Term of Sport

Term Three was an amazing term of sport for me.  I competed in many events and codes.
I will try to remember all of them to share in this post.

My Girl's rugby team came second in the Champion of Champions.
My team came third in our A Grade Netball competition played every week after school on Tuesdays.
We came 4th in our first ever Hip Hop competition.
My team came first in our interzone Rippa Rugby Competition.

And when our team won the Grand Final of the Auckland School Girls' Rugby Competition on Eden Park, I decided it was time to write a post about it!

After a long term of training it all came to an end with the Grand Finals being held at Eden Park.
There were six schools competing and we had to make it through to the final round.
We played against Viscount girls' team, who we had beaten in the first round, but we were feeling nervous.

In the first minute or so Viscount scored the first try.  But that didn't stop us from winning.
If you look at the final score - 35 to 15, you can see that NOTHING could have stopped us.

It was a great day!

Tamapeke the Whale

With our bags on the bank and us on the grove, we were having a bombing competition. I noticed something in the water. Then,. when we were in the water at the same time, something unusual happened.

With four of us jumping in, only three came back out. All of a sudden out of the corner of my eye, I saw my cousin Tane getting dragged by a whale. Then out of the blue my brother pulled out a gun and shot the whale. Sadly for Tane it was his old friend and thanks to my brother he wasn’t badly damaged.

Getting scared by the bullets the whale swam into rocks which caused Tane to get concussed. Tamapeke the whale then knew he was hurting Tane , so he took him back to shore and tried to talk to us but I was the only one that understood him. “ Stop shooting, he’s Tanes friend. Roy call an ambulance”, I screamed as Tamapeke was crying. Later on in the day Tane and his friend were in hospital.

In the end, Tamapeke had a personal trainer to help him recover and so did Tane. My cousins, brother and I started up a Aquatic center where hurt animals can live until they are fully recovered like a hospital.

Mind Map of The Dreaming Place

How to Make a Box

Here are 6 easy steps to making a box. There are some videos to show how to do it. Hope your box looks cool.
p.s. Don't forget to decorate it.

  1. First you fold your paper into quarters.

2. Then you fold the long edges to the middle crease and unfold. Your paper should end up looking like this.

3. Once you've done that, fold the short sides in and crease but don't unfold

 4. Fold each corner to the nearest crease

5. Fold the flaps in the middle of the paper up

                                                    6. Grab the flaps and open

                                                       7. And there's your box :D

Making my First set of Pois

Under two over one, went the strings of my first pois. My friend and I were making our first pois at my house. Its a tradition that when you make your first set, you give them away.

Preparing the them was easy but the thing I felt the most hardest, was making the handles. The handles are two, four plaited strands about the width of your finger and the length of your arm. Finally after plating, we had a break and played a little game of rugby with our little brothers.

“Azonto azonto azonto, now watch me do my azonto”, I sang and did my victory  dance to as I scored a try. It was now a tie, if we score the next try we win and the chores are theirs. Sliding down our front lawn, John-Amour, (My little brother), stepped me. But did he score the last score? No we did. Oh were we soo happy.

Around 6 o’clock, Kaycee and I finally finished our pois. “ I thought we’d never finish” she sighed. We were so relieved. Until my mum reminded us something. After all that afternoon, we made our first, (and what we think the best), set of pois and we have to give them away.

If only I made my first set faster so I could play with my second set sooner and for longer . No worries though, Kaycee and I had all day tomorrow.

Made up Interview with Valerie Adams

Thanks to listener.co.nz for the image
News Reporter: Tonight I would like to welcome to the stage a 2 time gold medalist, based in Auckland, world record holder, shes Tongan, shes New Zealand's favourite athlete and after almost not being able to compete in the 2012 olympics it is the one the only, VALERIE ADAMS.

Valerie: Thank you Thank you. This is such a pleasure to be able to come on your show tonight.

News Reporter: So Valerie, after you won the world record for shot put in 2008, were you certain to keep it?

Valerie: Well as it was leading up to the next Olympics I knew that there was that 1 lady I had to beat.

News Reporter: Let me guess, is it the Belarusian lady that looks like a man

Valerie: Yes. She was the only other competitor I was worried about. After I had heard of all her long distances while she was training just before my world record. I was so worried I wasn’t even sure that I would keep my title. But other than Nadzeya Ostapchuk I was pretty confident.

News Reporter: Just out of curiosity, what do you do in your spare time.

Valerie: Most of the time I’m helping out my family and cooking. My brother and I often go for jogs with each other. He really encourages me when it leads up to competitions.

News Reporter: You and your brother must be really close. He sounds like the kind of brother thats got your back no matter what.

Valerie: Well, now that i’m a famous shot putter, he does have my back but before this he use to treat me like his brother.

News Reporter: What does he do to you?

Valerie Adams: He acts like he’s nice and innocent when he makes my breakfast,

News Reporter: Hang on a minute isn’t that nice?

Valerie Adams: Can I finish, thank you, as I go to eat my breakfast I had always seen that mysterious look on his face but because of my hunger I ate my breakfast and instead of sugar it was salt.

News Reporter: Okay, lets move on. So Valerie before you took the world title was their anybody better than you?

Valerie Adams: Yes well in 2002, there was no-one better than McMonkey McStupid in shot put. Not until 2008. It was when I won the Olympic Gold medal for shot put. McStupids dreams were shattered and so was his career. And that was the end of McMonkey McStupids story.

News reporter: Hold on a minute, How was a McMonkey better than any other human, and I thought we were talking about your story not McMonkey McStupids dream.

Valerie: Oh yes forgot, Well in 2002 I was still training with my coach Kirsten Hellier. I met my trainer in 1996 and was certain the she would be my coach for the next 11 years.

News Reporter: And why are we talking about your trainer because?

Valerie: Sorry, getting side tracked. Anyway after training for 6 years, I thought it was time I put an end to Stupid Monkeys dreams. I knew it was time because I had already won a few gold medals.

News Reporter: From What?

Valerie: World championships and tuff

News Reporter: Wow

Valeri: On my way to Beijing I was thinking of all the victory taken off McMonkey and the victory put on me. By a shot put get it aye aye. Nevermind. Anyway look where I am now. World champion. Well second world champion.

News Reporter: Well that was a nice but confusing story about your career and McStupid McMonkey.

Valerie: Yea. Thanks for talk, maybe I'll win the next Olympics. Wait i’ll take that back. I'm GONNA WIN the next Olympics.

News Reporter: So can you give us some tips about shot put.

Valerie: Sure well, when you're about to put your canon ball, make sure it departs your hand at 140 c. And make sure to keep your feet inside the circle at all times and exit out the back of the circle.

News Reporter: Thanks Valerie Adams, this has been me the News reporter and Valerie talking abour how she go to where she is now. News Reporter signing out. Ka kite ano.

I reckon I deserve a mark of 16 out of 18.
This is the rubric I marked it on:

Chiefs Are The Best

Rugby League is one of the most exciting sports ever. Especially when the Chiefs are playing. Chiefs are like the best investec super rugby team ever. You may be wondering why I am in love with them so much? Well part of it is because they are from my home town WAIKATO, and also because Aaron Cruden, Richard Kahui and the all time favourite SONNY BILL WILLIAMS are in the amazing team.     "OLE OLE OLE OLE MOOLOO OLLE", I was  chanting while they were playing. With the Chiefs winning by 31, I had no doubt they weren't gonna lose. My friend and I had a bet that if the chiefs lose I had to owe her 5 dollars but if the sharks lost she had to owe me 5 dollars.

Obviously the Chiefs won and why? Well as I said it is because the chiefs are the best. The score ended up to be 36-4 with the chiefs winning. Saturday was the most exciting day of last week for me.

I reckon that their next game they will certainly win and not just by 31 but by 84. Thats how much I love the Chiefs. "OLLE OLLE OLLE OLLE MOOLLOO OLLE"

Medley Swimming

Medley swimming. What is it you may be asking? Well this event is a swimming relay which uses four people in a team. Each team player has their own swimming style. Only the four styles can be use. They are Backstroke a.k.a (Back Crawl), Breaststroke, Freestyle, and butterfly. Each team has to swim 8 lengths of the pool, which means each person in the team swims 2 lengths.

Swimming as fast as you can to the other end and back is the aim of this event. You can get held up by incorrect turns, not touching the wall and starting too early. If rules are not followed disqualifications will be made.

For athletes to be competitive, they have to make themselves as streamlined as possible.  Three different types of equipment are mostly what makes them streamline . Spandex togs, a cap and goggles are the three things that are needed. This event is swum in a 50m pool.

Swimmers training for the Olympics train differently depending on the season. They need to have the agility, speed, endurance and determination to become a winner.

I think it will be really fun if i had the opportunity to compete in the medley swimming relay. Thats only if I get to that point.

The Olympic Creed

This is the Olympic Creed written by Pierre De Coubertin.
It says: The Most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is is not triumph but the stuggle. The most important thing is not to conquer but to have fought well.

The Olympic Oath

This is the olympic oath,(promise), that one famous athlete says each year for the olympics.
"In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these olympic games, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and honour of our teams."

Bees

It is not very often that bees attack. They only sting if they are getting provoked. For bees as a rule they only sting if getting killed. When they are alarmed their natured weapons get put to use as self defence. But once they sting they sadly die.

On the bottom of the bee's stinger is a fine sharp barbed tube. Which is where a drop of poison is injected into the human body. It is only the worker bee that stings.

We often hear people stating that bees can only sting once then die. Well what generally happens is when the person is stung, they instantly knock the offending bee away which causes it bad injuries. Once knocked,  the bee is torn away from its stinger and dies.

A true fact is that bees can sting as often as we allow it as long as we don’t tear it from away its stinger.

Olympic Chariot Racing

Thanks to eglewis.blogspot.com for this picture
Chariot racing was one of the most popular sports in Greece. This sport was found to be the only Olympic type of event in ancient types.  Chariot racing was the most important equestrian sport. It was also a sport of war and strength. Men and only men were allowed to compete.

The Olympic Flag

The Olympic rings are made up of the colours Blue, yellow, black, green, and red. These rings stand for the union of different countries meeting and competing at the olympics. Baron Pierre De Coubertin designed this symbol.

curtsey of abstract.desktopnexus.com
As the olympic flag enters the stadium, it’s almost the start of the games. Elevating up the flagpole it soars until the olympics are ended. It is only in the closing ceremony it comes down. This is what signals the end of the games.

    Starry Starry Night Reflection

As I sketch my outline of the painting ‘Starry Starry Night’,  I try to replicate the tree into the grid lines. Van Gogh has a unique type of painting he uses to create his art. Just Like him I’ve used broad brush strokes as I paint my picture.

The swirling sky and shining moonlight has a interesting way of brush Strokes, which is why I tried to use the same style of painting. Taking my paint brush and dipping it in the paint I splat on my paper and mix it with the others. This will start to make a swirl.

Splotching the yellow paint onto the paper I attempt to make stars. Big, small and medium splotches make up all 15 stars in the same spot on the real painting. Well not quite.

The dark, calm village with the lights shining out of the houses are different on my painting compared to Van Goghs. Vincent Van Gogh is hard to compare your work to as he is an amazing artist(unlike me).

Big and dark, the tree in the middle looks very similar to a flame. Attempting to paint inside the outline I drew, I didn’t care and did it with no concentration.

Overall I think I did a very good detail job. Although there was no concentration put in the tree, I reckon it turned out alright.

    Starry Starry Night Critique

Starry Starry Night is a painting painted in 1889. Vincent Van Gogh was the man who painted it. This Glistening glorious Starry Starry Night is a very very well known painting. Starry Starry Night was the size of 73 x 92 centimeters. Just like the painting Sunflowers.

Staring into Starry Starry Night, the bright yellow stars stand out from the blue sky. Coming out from the side of the painting is a swirl that trails through stars. The foreground is a cypress tree that looks like a humongous dark flame rising to the stars of hope.

The horizon is blue and purple, with a glint of yellow where the sun is setting. This sunset separates the sky from the gloomy village. Calm and gloomy is the feeling of the village. The peaceful village is contrast to the bright joyful sky.

Little tiny houses with lights shining out of the windows make the houses look warm and comfortable. The village is gloomy and peaceful.

With the little calm village awaiting under the bright joyful sky is what makes this painting wonderful. Starry Starry Night.

    Most Tiring Swimming Lesson

Making our way to the pools, I could hear the rustling sound of plastic bags. Although it wasn’t
as noisy and the chattering children. As we wait for the other kids to catch up I was sooo eager
    to start our swimming lessons.
Entering the pools, instantly I smell the scent of chlorine. Staring at the water, I just couldn’t wait
    to jump.

As I put my swimming togs on, they felt still a bit damp from the day before. “Ahh” I sighed as I
hopped in the hot shower. Walking out of the changing rooms, the feeling of coldness hit me like
    a struck of lightning.
“Okay slip yourselves in and grab a flutter board”, our instructor ordered. This was going to be
an awesome lesson, I just knew it. From the water yesterday, today's one felt a bit warmer.

Pushing off the wall, I felt like a penguin gliding through the water. While kicking my way to the
end of the pool, I nearly caught up to one of my friends. Sadly she beat me. But not by far.
“Alright, that was awesome guys. Now we’re just going to do two more lengths then move on”
our instructor announced. Thinking to myself I just knew this was going to be piece  of  cake. Or
    that’s what I thought.
I suppose it wasn’t as easy as I thought at the start. Finishing my second length I was getting
so tired. Maybe I regret saying this was going to be an awesome lesson.
Struggling to get out of the pool, a shiver drove up my spine causing me to shake  and shiver.
Making my way to changing rooms, I just couldn’t wait to hop in that hot shower again.
Another nice, but tiring swim lesson. I hope tomorrow’s swim will be less tiring. Back to old plain school now.
